Chen Yueh-Hung, born in 1997 in Yilan, Taiwan, has actively participated in various solo and group exhibitions in recent years. His works have been selected for the Yilan Fine Arts Awards, and he has achieved commendable results in major national competitions. In 2018, he engaged in an intercollegiate exchange program, studying at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. The experience of studying in a different location opened new dimensions for his artistic creation. Currently, he continues his pursuit of knowledge in the Master's program at the Department of Fine Arts and Cultural and Creative Industries at Huafan University. His creations delve into the delicate relationships between modern technology, the environment, and humanity. Through diverse mediums such as installations, sculptures, and paintings, he has established his unique perspective on viewing the world and used it to construct various imaginations of the future.

Insights from a Unique Perspective

While most people focus on the progression of plot in film and television, Chen Yueh-Hung possesses a distinctive perspective. He is intrigued by the behind-the-scenes processes of creating films, TV shows, music, and stage productions during his viewing experience. He believes that when actors immerse themselves in their roles, they seem to forget themselves, showcasing their bodies in front of the camera, creating a simulated world with scenes, props, dialogues, and micro close-ups. Audiences often associate actors with the characters they portray, making it challenging for the actors to escape the shadow of their roles even after filming concludes.

Chen Yueh-Hung engages in profound observation and reflection during his viewing experiences, demonstrating keen insights into the commitment and performance of actors within their roles, as well as the details of the production process. These perspectives not only make his viewing style distinctive but also inspire his creative ideas.

The Era of Digitalization

In this age of abundant visual storytelling, social media posts and ephemeral stories have become part of modern daily life. Artists find themselves contemplating how individuals shape their identities and construct their sense of self through the plasticity of media and images. The current social patterns seem to place everyone in a passive "identity fabrication" phenomenon. Chen Yueh-Hung injects his reflections on this contemporary phenomenon into his creative thinking. Through his artworks, we may reflect on our roles in the digital age and how, within these social mechanisms, individuals can discover and maintain their authentic existence.

The Relationship Between the Body and Data

The series of artworks presented in this exhibition are the result of Chen Yueh-Hung's advertising design work and life experiences during the pandemic. These experiences, seemingly transformed into data in databases through image technology, are stored in various media. Chen Yueh-Hung feels that his creative process is akin to a technician "extracting" and "editing" files, establishing subtle relationships between spray painting on canvas layers and digital images.

The solo exhibition, "A role audition experiment about human" will lead the audience into a complex worldview woven by the artist, filled with technological and human dialogues. The artworks illustrate how digitized images influence and serve as the foundation for artistic creation, responding to the contemporary challenges we face regarding identity and self-awareness. As images gradually become a part of our bodies, how do we find our place in the vast ocean of data?
